Kevin tagged me with my first meme: “Eight Things I Find Amazing in Picture Form.” I think I’ll start out by being a little narcissistic. This photo set of 4 Polaroids always make me feel good.
I was 2 years old when this set of photographs was taken. My hair was curly and I apparently liked to walk about in my diaper. I think it’s amazing that my hair still looks like that when I wake up in the morning.
I love the way these photographs make me feel. They look so old. I’ve always been fascinated with gadgets, even roto-tillers.
There is a lot of emotion in this pic. Do I touch the dog? Am I full of wonder? Will it bite me?
2 years old and very shy.
I love all of the photographs from the Earth From Above by Yann Arthus Bertrand. I first saw an exhibit in Chicago in 2002 and it blew my mind. The photographs were displayed in an outdoor gallery with Putumayo World Lounge playing in the background. I was mesmerized. There are hundreds of Earth From Above photographs. I selected a photograph of the Taj Mahal and of Los Glaciares National Park in Patagonia. Both photographs are amazing.
The Taj Mahal is a terrific example of human architecture while the glacier is nature creating its own space.
I was 20 when I first saw a Jackson Pollock painting. A friend of mine who was an art major showed me a picture in an art book. Suddenly my abstract PhotoShop creations made sense. I felt validated. It was okay to make art that wasn’t pretty and that looked random on the surface.
I was asked to join the high school jazz band during my first year of high school. Unfortunately, I lived 15 minutes from town and didn’t have transportation to school for morning practices. In case you’re wondering, I lived in a 2 story farm house on a gravel road. I didn’t have access to public transportation because it didn’t exist. I was able to join the jazz band during my sophomore year after I obtained a learners permit drivers license. I quickly fell in love with jazz.
This photo is called A Great Day in Harlem and it is amazing. 54 legendary jazz artists in one photo. Click on the link for a larger version and a list of the artists.
This is the part of the meme where I get to tag some folks… Dennis, ABW, Changeseeker, EL and Jenn.
I love your baby pictures!!! I don’t know I think those old screwy camaras took some of the greatest pictures—i mean, what are those pictures really except a dirty kid wandering around in a yard???? but the camara caught your emotions and clearly the perosn taking the pictures loved the little subject very much. those crystal clear camaras just don’t allow love that is so apparent in your pictures to come through at all. I’ve got lots of pictures of my dirty kids crawling around in the back yard, and none of them look quite so beautiful…
great photos! i have to say that the second one is my favorite. its very important to till the dandelion field;)
Great photos, Eric. I collect vintage cameras and when I have the money I’ll hunt down the film and take a ton of shots (a package of 12 shots for one of my polaroids costs 30 bucks :( ) . I love digital cameras and all you can do with them, but there are some effects that you can only achieve the good ol’ fashioned analog way.
A Great Day in Harlem is one of my faves too! I’ve been wanting to get a print to hang in my apartment for a while now.
i think we were born in the same year.
great hair, btw.
@ aidan,
I think you’re right ;-)
