Co-facilitating a CSSA class

I co-facilitated a College Student Services Administration (CSSA) class at Oregon State University today. Jessica White and Chris White are teaching a course on Technology Issues in Higher Education. Jessica and I presented an edited version of our “Blogs and Student Learning” presentation. After an hour on blogs, blogging, rss, etc., Chris and I facilitated a discussion on podcasts / podcasting in a higher education context. I had a great time. The class asked a lot of questions and the discussion was lively. It felt good to be back in the classroom.

Solidarity Design Network

The Solidarity Design Network has been resurrected!

The SDN is a collective of web and print designers and developers who are dedicated to sharing their knowledge with the masses.

Chris invited me to participate…Kevin is already on board…and more folks are on the way. I can’t wait to see the evolution of the Solidarity Design Network 2.0!

My contributions to the SDN will likely include information on search engine optimization, blogging, WordPress, web analytics, etc.

Greetings.

Daily readers of the ESB may have noticed that I’ve been tweaking the blog quite a bit since August.

I’ve added Google Search functionality, re-arranged the sidebar content, written a Pulitzer-worthy “about me” section, and included the ability to engage in live instant messaging via Meebo.com (live chat subject to availability and admin moodiness).

The site’s tag cloud displays context-based links to what I’ve been writing about since I added tags to the ESB:

Technology Knowledge Community 2.0

The NASPA Technology Knowledge Community has been resurrected!

Kudos to Leslie Dare, Kevin Guidry, et al. Leslie and Kevin, the new community co-chairs, are working on recruiting additional Technology Knowledge Community leaders/members. I am already virtually in line for TKC 2.0 membership ;-)

World Usability Day

From the Official Google Blog:

World Usability Day, November 14, 2006, is for everyone who’s ever asked these questions. This Earth Day style event, focused on raising awareness and visibility of usability engineering and user centered design, is currently being organized by volunteers and local event coordinators from around the world. Whether a usability professional or just an enthusiastic (or frustrated) user, each participant is making a contribution to “making life easy”.

Check out the worldwide usability events map as well as the usability webcasts schedule.

In other news — Wendy and I are off to Iowa on Wednesday for a visit with the “Fam.” Feel free to leave comments, however, my parent’s dial-up connection usually keeps me offline. It’s actually nice to go on vacation and unplug.

By the way, getting to Iowa from Oregon is neither easy nor affordable. Wendy and I will take 2 airplanes, 1 hovercraft, and a 415 foot aluminum slide to get to Columbus Junction, Iowa.

Blogs and Student Learning

Here are the PowerPoint slides from the “Blogs and Student Learning: Making Meaning and Connections through Graduate Student Portfolios” (PDF/2.3 MB) presentation that I co-presented with JW at the NASPA Western Regional Conference.
