MediaTemple’s apology

MediaTemple
MediaTemple is my web host. Recently, they have had a lot of technical difficulties with their Grid-Service that resulted in unscheduled downtime and blogosphere frustration. The problem was caused by a hardware malfunction. MediaTemple, a company that is highly aware of the competitive nature of the web hosting world, decided to give their Grid-Service customers 2 months free credit on their accounts. I truly hope that this is the last of the downtime gremlins for MediaTemple. There are a lot of hosting options and I picked (several years ago) MT because they host one of my favorite web authors, Jeffrey Zeldman.

A potential deluge

My blogging has been a bit lax as of late. I’ve been very busy with “brickosphere” commitments. Who knew that an academic advising position could be so enjoyably exhausting :-). Plus, I’ve been going to the gym 3 times a week. I’m in a contest with my metabolism…I think I’m winning!

The blogosphere has kept my bloglines (rss feeds) inundated with tons of terrific things to read. There are currently about 50 tabs in firefox (and hundreds of bookmarked blog posts) that could lead to potential blog posts. I might just rock out to Ben Harper and see how many posts pour out… Cheers.

Unplugged

I’d like to apologize for my absence from the blogosphere. My posting frequency has decreased as well as my comments around bloglandia. I’ve been reading a lot of blog posts via rss by way of Bloglines, including: Slant Truth, Woman of Color Blog, The Unapologetic Mexican, Rachel’s Tavern, BlackProf, and Zuky.

The new job has been a refreshing change of pace from the solo venture of my technology consulting business. I feel like my brain is overflowing with academic advisor knowledge. I’m advising students in Health and Human Sciences who are majoring in Exercise and Sports Science, Nutrition and Food Management, Human Development and Family Sciences, and anyone who identifies as “pre-med.” The fall term begins on Monday. I’ve been told that the office will be extremely busy this week.

Starting next week, I hope to publish a new blog post about once per week. I’m definitely in a transitional phase as I shift from being a freelancer to a full time, salaried employee.

In other news, I am scheduled to host the Erase Racism Carnival in November!

Buzzfeed

BuzzFeed distinguishes what is actually interesting from what is merely hyped. We only feature movies, music, fashion, ideas, technology, and culture that are on the rise and worth your time.

My post on Gender Neutral Bathrooms was just buzzed!

I wonder why my post was chosen? I found out about Safe2Pee from a post at vegankid’s.

Send Me a Voice Message

Send Me A Message

E-mail, voicemail, instant messaging, and postal mail are just a few of the ways that I can be contacted. Next week I plan on implementing a solar-powered carrier pigeon system…

Recently, I came across the ODEO “Send a message” service which allows blog visitors to record an audio voice message that is then emailed to the blogger.

Enroll-A-Tron 3042:
In what appears to be the first viral video aimed at Enrollment Management Directors / Admissions Directors, Frank Meester debuts the “Enroll-A-Tron 3042.” The device is
guaranteed to help enrollment management professionals recruit and retain students at an amazing 100% retention rate. The video is pretty funny and it will be interesting to see if enrollment management folks find humor in a 15 billion dollar, ductwork/old server-based, grant-funded, device :-)

Solidarity Design Network

The Solidarity Design Network has been resurrected!

The SDN is a collective of web and print designers and developers who are dedicated to sharing their knowledge with the masses.

Chris invited me to participate…Kevin is already on board…and more folks are on the way. I can’t wait to see the evolution of the Solidarity Design Network 2.0!

My contributions to the SDN will likely include information on search engine optimization, blogging, WordPress, web analytics, etc.

Eric Stoller on Eric Stoller

Greetings.

Daily readers of the ESB may have noticed that I’ve been tweaking the blog quite a bit since August.

I’ve added Google Search functionality, re-arranged the sidebar content, written a Pulitzer-worthy “about me” section, and included the ability to engage in live instant messaging via Meebo.com (live chat subject to availability and admin moodiness).

The site’s tag cloud displays context-based links to what I’ve been writing about since I added tags to the ESB:
