I’ve heard/read complaints that Star Wars is sexist against women (i’m female), that the male heroes grossly outnumber the females, that Luke, Han, and Lando all got promotions in the Rebel Alliance and Leia got none. Thinking this over, I came up with an alternative thought…
Is Star Wars sexist agains MEN?
At the beginning of the story, Leia is a Rebel leader fighting for an important cause. The 3 main male characters, at this time, consist of; a schmo farmboy who is 18 and lives with his parents (aunt and uncle, whatever), a low-life pirate thug, and a rich pimp partying in Cloud City. Only when the woman gets involved in all their lives do they clean up thier acts and start to fight against evil.
What’s Lucas trying to say, huh? That Men are self-concerened Neanderthals without women to civilize them?
Just kidding, of course. Yes, I do think SW is a tad sexist, but it obviosly doesn’t consider one gender braver or smarter than the other. I just thought this was kind of a funny thought, and I wanted to share it. Thanks for letting me use your blog.
