Providing thought leadership, strategy, and practical expertise within the intersection of teaching, learning, and student success, Eric’s work focuses on how technology can provide around-the-clock support and insight for students, staff, and faculty.

With a background in student affairs, academic advising, first-year experience, digital identity, wellness, orientation, technology, and communications, Eric is a leading higher ed expert in how technology can be used for student engagement, recruitment, retention, and well-being.

He is a keen proponent for teaching students, staff, and faculty about digital identity development and is especially interested in the interplay between organizational culture and the adoption of new technologies for enhancing the student experience.

Eric currently runs a successful higher education consultancy. In 2010, he created the Student Affairs and Technology blog for Inside Higher Ed. He has been the Vice President of Product Strategy for Element451, a leading higher ed CRM, as well as the VP of Digital Strategy for GeckoEngage, a UK-based student engagement edtech start-up.

Eric is a former Academic Advisor and Web Coordinator for the College of Health and Human Sciences at Oregon State University. He served previously as a Marketing Specialist for Student Affairs at the University of Illinois at Chicago.

He received an AA from Indian Hills Community College, a BA in Communications/Public Relations from the University of Northern Iowa, and an Ed.M. in College Student Services Administration from Oregon State University.
