Loved every minute of it! However, the comments on the youtube page are beyond disheartening. :(

How do you tell people they are being too uptight about race, and perhaps THEY are the ones who are prejudiced, as they walk around with race inequality constantly on their mind?

@Erika - Glad you liked it. I usually cannot stomach a lot of the comments that pop up on vids on YouTube. There are a lot of YouTube Trolls.

@crallspace - I would tell folks who are invested in discussions of race, racism, discrimination, social justice, etc. that unfortunately there are dominant paradigm folks out there who don’t seem to ever look in the mirror and challenge themselves regarding their privileges and racial awareness.

I’m mean c’mon, a white dude saying that people who think critically about race are just being uptight has got to be right. Right? or…maybe if more white dudes would, ya know, think about race more often, then maybe some things like institutionalized racism might just be diminished…

And, did my head just explode with irony? People who think about racial inequality are prejudiced? What?!! So, I guess that means that in order to eliminate racism we should just stop thinking about it and it will go away? Who knew that it was so easy. We don’t need activism, movements, policy changes, education, etc. We just need to stop thinking. Brilliant!

Crawlspace is voicing the “color blind” theory. Love sees no color? Why not?

@Anon - Because that means that you cannot love someone of color. Love should see all colors. Color blind = white is the only race that can be loved since all other colors cannot be seen.

Indeed. That’s what I said. We need to stop thinking.

Activism and awareness are good. IF you beat people over the head with it in a self-righteous tone, you drive people off. Why not present in a way that people can relate to and care about? That’s all. Take from that what you will.

    Dan,

Maybe you should make a companion video the one above, or maybe write a book…

Why Only White People’s Opinions Count, by Dan Crall. That sound about right?

On the other hand, you did actually type “We need to stop thinking.” Kudos for being honest about supporting ignorance, though it seems like a dubious honor….

    Dennis,
Perhaps you could write a book called “My Reading Comprehension and Reason Skills are One Big Zero.” Who are we kidding? You couldn’t write a book.
