Albany Visitors Association
The re-designed Albany Visitors Association website is now up and running. The site uses WordPress as its content management system (cms). The homepage is a static WordPress page while the “Blog” link points to another page that functions like a blog (posts in reverse chronological order).
Site search, site map, context-based page titles, and a user-friendly contact form are just a few of the new components on the new site.
Cotter Elementary

It took about an hour for me to get to school in the mid 80′s. The bus was on gravel roads for the majority of the trip. Cotter Elementary was where the country kids went to elementary school. I remember milk breaks, nap time, music programs in the gymnasium, and running around the expansive grassy area that surrounded the school.
Bone Voyage

Some of you know that I used to play the trombone in high school and in college. Many of you were not aware of this particular facet of my persona.

One of my favorite trombone-based albums is the obscure and amazingly-named “Bone Voyage” by the Airmen of Note. Bone Voyage features some of the craziest jazz trombone recordings that I have ever heard. They must have had some well developed embouchures.
The entire album is available online and it’s been converted from the original LP into 64 kbps MP3 format.

Considering difference
In April I posted some audio from Al Gore’s keynote at the NASPA/ACPA National Conference. This post drew the attention of a certain blogger by the name of Radar. Radar had also attended the NASPA/ACPA conference and he had a few things to say about Al Gore. I love getting comments on my site that differ from my own opinion. This diversity of viewpoints keeps things interesting and forces me to flex my brain cells.
Macs crash too

Sometimes my Macbook Pro crashes…however, it has only crashed 3 times and each time I have had Microsoft Windows XP running via Parallels. It would really be neat if I could get Windows XP in Parallels to throw the blue screen of death (BSOD) while Mac OS X simultaneously displayed the OS X crash graphic…

“8 per day…
4 for you.
4 for your partner.
40 each week.
Not enough? Maybe you should go to the library or I don’t know maybe you could study or even take a nap…”
This was part of my Wellness Center spiel during each first year student orientation at the University of Illinois at Chicago. The Wellness Center provided free condoms for UIC students. I think we gave out more than 20,000 in 2003. Trojans, LifeStyles, and Durex were our usual fare. Handing out condoms was just a tiny part of the sexual wellness education that came out of the Wellness Center. However, our free condom program was probably the most publicized piece of our sexual wellness educational efforts.
University of North Dakota

The University of North Dakota (UND) is currently conducting a search for a new president. According to Diverse Issues in Higher Education, the 16-member search committee does not include any Native Americans. David Gipp, a UND alumnus and president of the United Tribes Technical College, has asked the State Board of Higher Education to appoint a Native American to the search committee. I feel that this is reasonable given the fact that Native students represent the largest minority group at UND. John Q. Paulsen, president of the State Board of Higher Education disagrees with Mr. Gipp and myself:
