What an amazing person Ms. Wells must have been! To challenge the status quo, to attempt to open the eyes and hearts of others to the ugliness perpetuated against the Black community at a time when very few women were speaking out, or allowed to speak out, for that matter, is a life well-lived.

Who would have thought that the "World's Fair", which to me should imply celebration of diversity, would be a haven of such misconceptions about entire nations of people.

I've just stumbled onto your blog while searching for some other information, and I've been wandering around here for hours. Keep writing, you've got a good heart.
Peaceful journeys,
Dawn

I really liked the way you started the article. The name of the book just popped in my eyes.
If someone had told me that I would spend an entire Sunday, from morning to night, engrossed in a history of the creation of the 1893 Chicago World's Fair, I would have...well, I would have doubted it. Architecture is not exactly my thing, nor are fairs, or Chicago for that matter. Yet THE DEVIL IN THE WHITE CITY, which concerns all of these elements and more, is so engrossing a tale that it is impossible to put down.
